The production system digitalisation project was carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maribor and the company Mizarstvo in geodetske storitve Pozaršek, Klemen Pozaršek s.p. The company specialises in the production and installation of custom-made furniture and provides comprehensive solutions from concept to implementation, while managing its own production process with several work phases.
As part of the cooperation, the company made an important step towards the digital transformation of its production. The development of the simulation model, digital twin and virtual reality (VR) solutions was led by Assist. Prof. Dr. Robert Ojsteršek, who works at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Maribor, in the fields of production system digitalisation, simulations and Industry 4.0.
The project began with an analysis of the existing production environment and the definition of objectives and activities. Based on this, cost calculations for individual workstations were prepared, providing better insight into production efficiency. This was followed by the creation of a 3D model of the production system, which served as the basis for the development of the simulation model and digital twin.
The digital twin enables a clear understanding of workflow, the identification of bottlenecks and the testing of different production organisation scenarios. In the final phase of the project, a VR model of the production system was also developed, providing spatial insight into the production process and serving as a modern tool for planning, training and decision-making support.
The result of the cooperation is a functional digital twin of the production system, which gives the company greater process transparency, improved planning capabilities and a solid foundation for further modernisation and long-term development.
