Demystifying HPC: From basics to practical applications
The seminar covers an introduction to High Performance Computing (HPC) and presents its practical application in the industry and research environments. Participants will learn about key concepts of supercomputing, including HPC system architecture, parallel computing, and the challenges and opportunities that HPC brings. The seminar also includes practical examples of the use of HPC in various industries where HPC enables faster research and innovation. Part of the seminar will also be dedicated to the Slovenian HPC environment, especially the Vega supercomputer, the SLING consortium, and active projects that provide access to HPC technologies and support the development of knowledge and research. Participants will gain a comprehensive insight into the potential of HPC and practical guidelines for its use in their companies and research.
Dr. Mladen Borovič is employed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Maribor. His research includes natural language processing, recommender systems and search engines, detection of similar content, artificial intelligence and its applications, as well as supercomputing and high-performance computing. As an assistant in the undergraduate and postgraduate study programs, he leads computer science seminars related to artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. He participated in several projects such as HPC RIVR, EuroCC projects, National Open Access Infrastructure (NIOD), Development of the Slovenian language in the digital environment (RSDO), and Slovene in the palm of your hand (SND). He has obtained 11 NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute certifications and is also active as a reviewer in several high-impact scientific journals.
