Partner: Arctur

In 2020, the Arctur has, co-financed by the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, prepared a step-by-step guidelines on Digital Innovation of Cultural Heritage followed by a one-of-a-kind Digital innovation of cultural heritage (DIKD) portal with 3D models, presenting the 2-year work of 31 leading Slovenian tourist destinations digitising at least three examples of registered cultural heritage and developing at least one new innovative tourist experience. In total, 31 leading tourist destinations produced 118 3D models of Slovenian cultural heritage, many short films, 360-degree photos, 360-degree videos, and other multimedia assets.

The DIKD portal enables easy insight into 3D models, no special software, using ordinary computers or mobile devices. The portal is among the most technologically advanced, even at the European level, as it enables the storage, viewing and management of large 3D models. The user can browse the rich collection, view the rich details (metadata) of 3D models and cultural heritage units. The DIKD Portal promotes use of 3D models for promotional, research, educational and other purposes.

Presentation of the immersive cultural heritage is now available in innovative digital manners. Let us present only a few remarkable applications: For Ljubljana Tourism, Arctur produced internationally awarded case studies of digital innovation of Jože Plečnik’s heritage, already receiving the ECTN Award by the international association of the European Cultural Tourism Network (ECTN), the Slovenia Unique Experiences mark, awarded by the Slovenian Tourism Organization, and a first place at the 2022 WEBSI Slovenia digital excess competition. The Šalek Valley Tourist Board innovative tourist experiences ‘Submerged villages of Velenje lake‘ and ‘Fly into the tannery of Europe‘ both got awarded the Slovenia Unique Experience labels and BIG SEE awards. Velika planina is one of Slovenia’s most scenic mountain plateaus with one of the few surviving high mountain herdsmen’s villages in Europe. The results of our activities are visible in TIC Kamnik in the city center, where you can fly over Velika planina with the help of #VR glasses, explore the diverse history and offer of the mountain on an interactive screen and virtually transform into one of the mythological creatures.
