On Wednesday, 13 November 2024, a training seminar on Demystifying HPC: From basics to practical applications. The keynote speaker was Dr. Mladen Borovič from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the University of Maribor. His research includes natural language processing, recommender systems and search engines, detection of similar content, artificial intelligence and its applications, as well as supercomputing and high-performance computing.
Dr. Borovič introduced High-Performance Computing (HPC) and presented its practical application in the industry and research enivornments. He presented the key concepts of supercomputing, and the challenges and opportunities that HPC can bring. The second part of the seminar was dedicated to the Slovenian HPC environment, especially the Vega supercomputer, the SLING consortium, and other active projects in that area.
