Advanced ICT literacy for businesses focuses on leveraging tools like Excel and Power BI to optimize business processes, enhance data transparency, and support more effective strategic decision-making. The workshop “Excel and Power BI for Business Reporting” combines the strengths of both tools to equip participants with advanced skills for data analysis, visualization, business reporting, and planning.
The workshop will be held online on February 6 and 7, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
In the first part, the focus will be on Excel functionalities for consolidating and processing data from various sources. Participants will learn to import data, use Power Query for cleaning and combining data, and create reports in the form of pivot tables. They will also gain skills for reconciling balances and analyzing key items in financial reports.
The second part will delve into Power BI, introducing participants to its user interface and the basics of acquiring data from Excel, web sources, and databases. They will learn to design interactive reports and dashboards with visualizations such as charts, maps, and tree maps. The session will cover data processing, defining relationships between tables, and calculating additional metrics, such as currency conversion and regional sales analysis.
The workshop will also address publishing reports to the Power BI cloud, enabling mobile access, and integrating Power BI with Excel. Through practical exercises, participants will gain hands-on experience in creating dynamic business solutions that support decision-making and planning.
This combination of skills enables efficient and professional preparation and presentation of information, utilizing modern analytical tools in a digital business environment.
Participants are expected to have an advanced knowledge of Excel.
The workshop will be led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Igor Perko from the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Maribor. He teaches information systems for managers and introduces students to the use of business intelligence and analytical systems. His professional work includes the development of information systems, enhanced by multimedia and the application of virtual and augmented reality in business environments. His research focuses on the synergy between systems thinking, cybernetics, artificial intelligence, and sustainable strategies.
