Information Security and Storage in the Digital Age: Data (Computer) Centres as Key Infrastructure for Secure Data Storage

In the era of digital transformation, data is becoming the most valuable asset of organisations, and its secure storage and management is a strategic task.
This workshop focuses on the importance of data (computer) centres as key elements of critical infrastructure that enable secure, reliable, and compliant information storage.

Who is the workshop for?
The workshop is intended for professionals and decision-makers in the fields of:

  • Information and cyber security,
  • IT and systems management,
  • Risk management and internal control,
  • Infrastructure management in public administration and private enterprises,
  • Critical infrastructure,
  • Corporate security.

It is also suitable for anyone facing the challenges of ensuring compliance with standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 27001), legislation (e.g. ZVOP-2, NIS2), and internal information protection policies.

What will participants gain?

  • An understanding of the role and importance of data centres as foundational infrastructure in the digital society.
  • An overview of threats and risks to secure data storage.
  • Insight into technical, organisational, and spatial solutions for safeguarding information in data centres.
  • An introduction to best practices and standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 27001, TIER classification of data centres).
  • Familiarity with opportunities for collaboration with external data centre service providers and key issues related to trust, oversight, and compliance.

Format:
The workshop will be delivered in the form of an interactive lecture, including discussion and real-life case demonstrations. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange experiences.
The lecture will be delivered by Assoc. Prof Dr Miha Dvojmoč from the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Security at the University of Maribor. Dr Dvojmoč is an internationally recognised expert in personal data protection and the functioning of artificial intelligence systems. As the appointed Data Protection Officer (DPO) at the University of Maribor, he is actively engaged in research and consulting on GDPR compliance and is the author of numerous academic and professional contributions in the fields of cyber security, legal challenges of technology, and privacy protection.

In the practical part of the workshop, Pošta Slovenije will participate as a data centre provider, offering secure and reliable data storage.
