CoGreen d.o.o., a Slovenian construction and engineering company based in Ljubljana is specialized integrated Hemp building solutions including with a strong innovation approach. Their main focus on connecting natural building materials and green technologies, has embarked on its digital transformation journey within the framework of the EDIH DIGI-SI initiative. EDIH DIGI-SI, coordinated by the University of Maribor, is an initiative that supports the digitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Slovenia, aiming to accelerate their digital and green transformation through expert guidance, advanced technologies, and close collaboration with the Enterprise Europe Network.
The company joined the initiative to explore advanced digital tools that could support their innovative use of hempcrete — a sustainable material renowned for its excellent technical and environmental properties.
To accelerate the digitalization of their workflows and further strengthen their position as a pioneer in sustainable construction, CoGreen d.o.o. sought expert guidance from the University of Maribor on BIM (Building Information Modeling) implementation strategies, process optimization, and advanced digital integration solutions. Through consulting sessions with a research expert from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Architecture at the University of Maribor provided valuable recommendations and practical strategies for incorporating 3D, 4D, and 5D BIM models into CoGreen’s workflows. These models enable real-time project visualization, scheduling, and cost tracking, thereby ensuring more efficient planning, reduced risks, and improved communication among stakeholders.
Key recommendations included adopting a phased approach to BIM implementation, starting with pilot projects and targeted employee training. This approach helps mitigate common challenges such as high initial investment costs, resistance to change, and the need for staff upskilling. By following these recommendations, CoGreen d.o.o. is well-positioned for a successful BIM transition, improved operational efficiency, and enhanced competitiveness in the digitalized construction sector. Their proactive approach to digital transformation not only ensures compliance with emerging industry standards but also supports long-term sustainability and innovation in the field of green building.
Based on the consultation, CoGreen d.o.o. received several strategic recommendations to support effective BIM implementation, process optimization, and broader digital transformation in sustainable construction project management. These focused on ensuring regulatory compliance, improving operational efficiency, and leveraging advanced digital tools to support environmentally responsible project execution
To further enhance decision-making and enable real-time data insights, the company was encouraged to explore IoT-based project monitoring systems, AI-driven analytics, and Extended Reality (XR) tools that support accurate data interpretation and responsive on-site management. It was also recommended that CoGreen d.o.o. engage in SRIP (Strategic Research and Innovation Partnerships) initiatives to connect with innovation ecosystems, research institutions, and strategic partners within the green and digital construction sector. Addressing challenges such as the shortage of digitally skilled professionals, resistance to organizational change, and the financial demands of full-scale implementation was identified as essential for the successful introduction of BIM and related digital technologies.
By implementing these recommendations, CoGreen d.o.o. is set to successfully integrate BIM into its sustainable construction practices, with modular innovation for scale up, enhance operational efficiency, and strengthen its competitive position in the green and digital construction market, while staying aligned with both regulatory and environmental standards.
In conclusion, CoGreen d.o.o.’s engagement with the the University of Maribor marks a significant step in its digital and green transformation journey. By embracing advanced digital technologies such as BIM, IoT, AI analytics, and XR tools, and aligning these with its commitment to natural building materials like hempcrete, the company is effectively navigating the challenges of digitalization while reinforcing its role as a pioneer in sustainable construction. Through a strategic, phased approach and expert guidance, CoGreen d.o.o. is not only enhancing its operational efficiency and regulatory compliance but also securing long-term innovation, resilience, and competitiveness in the evolving digital and green construction landscape.
